Washington Columbia River and Tributary Fishing Report Aug 10-16, 2020
Lower Columbia mainstem Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam – 425 salmonid boats and 133 Washington bank rods were tallied during Saturday’s (8/15) flight count.
Mainstem Lower Columbia River
Sec 1 (Bonneville) – 20 bank anglers kept one Chinook, one Chinook jack and released one Chinook jack and four steelhead.
Sec 2 (Camas/Washougal) – Four bank anglers had no catch. 6 boats/11 rods had no catch.
Sec 3 (I-5 area) – 10 bank anglers had no catch. 1 boat/1 rod had no catch.
Sec 4 (Vancouver) – 37 bank anglers had no catch. 24 boats/53 rods kept 10 Chinook, one Chinook jack and released one steelhead.
Sec 5 (Woodland) – 59 bank anglers kept eight Chinook and one Chinook jack. 16 boats/28 rods kept three Chinook.
Sec 6 (Kalama) – 67 bank anglers kept 16 Chinook, two Chinook jacks and released one Chinook jack. 5 boats/11 rods had no catch.
Sec 7 (Cowlitz) – 10 boats/21 rods kept one Chinook, two Chinook jacks and released one coho jack and two steelhead.
Sec 8 (Longview) – 33 bank anglers released two steelhead. 12 boats/21 rods kept one Chinook.
Sec 9 (Cathlamet) – One bank angler had no catch. 13 boats/27 rods kept five Chinook and two Chinook jacks.
Sec 10 (Cathlamet) – 5 boats/15 rods kept seven Chinook.
Sec 2 (Camas/Washougal) – 2 boats/3 rods had no catch.
Columbia River Tributaries
Cowlitz River – I-5 Br downstream – 1 boat/1 rod had no catch.
Above the I-5 Br – 16 bank rods kept seven steelhead. 9 boats/27 rods kept 19 steelhead.
Tacoma Power employees recovered 367 summer-run steelhead adults, 27 spring Chinook adults, 10 spring Chinook jacks, 93 spring Chinook mini-jacks, 25 cutthroat trout, and two fall Chinook during five days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.
During the past week, Tacoma Power released four cutthroat trout into the Tilton River and they released 11 spring Chinook adults, one spring Chinook jack, and 13 cutthroat trout into the upper Cowlitz River at Franklin Bridge in Packwood.
Tacoma Power recycled 300 summer-run steelhead adults to the I-5 launch and they released five spring Chinook jacks and 75 spring Chinook mini-jacks into Riffe Lake. Last week, 2,205 rainbow trout were released into Mayfield Lake.
River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 6,430 cubic feet per second on Monday, August 17, 2020. Water visibility is 11 feet and the water temperature is 50 F.
Kalama River – Five bank anglers had no catch.
Wind River – One bank angler had no catch.
Drano Lake – One bank angler released two steelhead. 11 boats/18 rods released one Chinook and four steelhead.
Klickitat below Fisher Hill Bridge – One bank angler had no catch.
Klickitat above #5 Fishway – Three bank anglers had no catch.
