SW WA, Lower Columbia Fishing Report (5-26-20)

Fishery Reports:
Salmon/Steelhead:
Mainstem Lower Columbia River
Sec 1 (Bonneville) – 157 bank anglers kept 14 Chinook and released 11 Chinook. 6 boats/11 rods kept 2 Chinook.
Sec 2 (Camas/Washougal) – 14 boats/34 rods released three Chinook.
Sec 3 (I-5 area) – 12 boats/26 rods kept one Chinook.
Sec 4 (Vancouver) – 51 bank anglers kept one Chinook. 19 boats/37 rods kept one Chinook.
Sec 5 (Woodland) – 24 bank anglers had no catch.
Sec 6 (Kalama) – 47 bank anglers kept one steelhead and released one steelhead. 3 boats/5 rods had no catch.
Sec 8 (Longview) – 42 bank anglers kept two steelhead and released one steelhead. 9 boats/26 rods kept one Chinook jack and four steelhead.
Sec 9 (Cathlamet) – Seven bank anglers had no catch. 1 boat/2 rods kept one steelhead.
Sec 10 (Cathlamet) – 1 boat/2 rods had no catch.
Sturgeon: Sec 6 (Kalama) – 1 boat/2 rods had no catch.
Shad: Sec 1 (Bonneville) – 16 bank anglers kept 13 shad.
Sec 4 (Vancouver) – Two bank anglers kept six shad. 5 boats/11 rods kept nine shad.
Sec 5 (Woodland) – 5 boats/12 rods kept 42 shad.
Sec 6 (Kalama) – 9 boats/21 rods kept 115 shad.
Sec 8 (Longview) – 1 boat/2 rods kept 25 shad.
Salmon/Steelhead:
Columbia River Tributaries
Cowlitz River – I-5 Br downstream: 41 bank rods had no catch. 2 boats/6 rods had no catch.
Above the I-5 Br: 33 bank rods had no catch. 3 boats/9 rods had no catch.
Tacoma Power employees recovered 50 winter-run steelhead adults, 25 spring Chinook adults, 23 spring Chinook jacks, and 17 summer-run steelhead adults during five days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.
During the past week, Tacoma Power released 13 spring Chinook adults, one spring Chinook jack, and nine winter-run steelhead adults into Lake Scanewa in Randle and they released one winter-run steelhead adult into the Cispus River near Yellowjacket Creek in Randle.
Tacoma Power released four winter-run steelhead adults into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton.
Tacoma Power also released 3,600 rainbow trout into South Lewis County Park Ponds in Toledo and 720 rainbow trout into Swofford Pond near Mossyrock last week.
River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 5,060 cubic feet per second on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Water visibility is 12 feet and the water temperature is 47.7 F.
Kalama River – 69 bank anglers released one steelhead. 12 boats/25 rods kept two Chinook, one jack and released one steelhead.
Lewis River – Nine bank anglers had no catch. 3 boats/5 rods released three Chinook.
Wind River Mouth – Eight bank rods had no catch. 20 boats/41 rods kept 12 Chinook.
Wind River above Shipherd Falls – Three bank rods had no catch.
Drano Lake – 27 boats/49 rods kept nine Chinook.
Klickitat below Fisher Hill Bridge – 13 bank anglers kept two jacks and released one jack.
Klickitat above #5 Fishway – 3 bank anglers had no catch.
Trout:
Anglers are having good success catching some nice trout and kokanee in local lakes and ponds.
