Cascade River Opening 7 Days A Week For Springers

THE FOLLOWING IS A RULE CHANGE NOTICE FROM WDFW

Action: Opens a portion of the Cascade River to fishing for hatchery spring Chinook seven days per week.

Effective date: Immediatelythrough July 15, 2023.

HATCHERY SPRING CHINOOK FISHING IN THE CASCADE RIVER IS NOW OPEN TO FISHING EVERY DAY WITH TRIBAL FISHERIES HAVING NOW CONCLUDED. (KNIFE PHOTO CONTEST)

Species affected: All species.

Location: Cascade River (Skagit Co.) from mouth to Rockport-Cascade Road Bridge.

Rules: Daily limit is four hatchery Chinook including no more than two adults, minimum size is 12 inches. Night closure and anti-snagging rule in effect. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook.

Reason for action: Treaty fisheries for hatchery spring Chinook in this section of the Cascade have concluded for the season. Fishing closures Sundays through Tuesdays to avoid gear conflicts are no longer necessary. The ongoing Skagit system sport fisheries are still within conservation objectives for wild spring Chinook encounters.

Additional information: Anglers are asked to cooperate with creel personnel collecting catch information. Monitoring and evaluation of fisheries is an important part of ensuring we are meeting our conservation goals for salmon. The June 1 through June 30 portion of this fishery was opened under emergency regulation, and the July 1 through July 15 period of this fishery will also be listed in the 2023/24 Washington Sportfishing Rules pamphlet.
