Area 11 Chinook Retention Suspended; Midweek Closures Coming To Part Of Skagit
THE FOLLOWING ARE EMERGENCY RULE CHANGE NOTICES FROM WDFW
Chinook retention suspended in Tacoma-Vashon Island (Marine Area 11)
Action: Suspends retention of Chinook salmon.
Effective date: 12 a.m., August 25 through September 30, 2021.
Species affected: Chinook salmon.
Location: Tacoma-Vashon Island (Marine Area 11).
Rule: Salmon daily limit 2. No min. size. Release Chinook.
Reason for action: The current estimate of Chinook harvest is 3,181 of the total harvest quota of 3,084 (103%) agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF). Because the harvest quota has been reached, WDFW staff have made the decision to suspend Chinook retention.
Additional Information: This fishing rule change does not affect the Marine Area 11 coho and pink fisheries, which continue as planned.
This rule does not affect the following year-round piers: Des Moines Pier, Les Davis Pier, Point Defiance Boathouse Dock, and Redondo Pier.
Skagit River from Highway 9 to Baker River to temporarily close to all fishing

- Tuesday, Oct. 12 through Wednesday, Oct. 13
- Tuesday, Oct. 19 through Wednesday, Oct. 20
Species affected: All species.
Rule: Closed to all fishing.
Reason for action: This area of the Skagit River will close to all fishing to avoid gear conflicts with treaty fisheries during these scheduled dates.
Additional information: Anglers are asked to respect tribal fishers and reminded to not interfere with tribal fisheries. Continued conflicts could lead to additional time and area closures.
