SW WA, Lower Columbia Fishing Report (6-9-20)

THE FOLLOWING FISHING REPORT WAS FORWARDED BY BRYANT SPELLMAN, WDFW

Fishery Reports: 

Lower Columbia mainstem from Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to I-5 Bridge – 42 salmonid boats and 185 Washington bank rods were tallied during Saturday’s (6/6) flight count. 

Salmon/Steelhead: 

Mainstem Lower Columbia River 

Sec 4 (Vancouver) – 36 bank anglers kept one Chinook jack and released one Chinook and one steelhead. 10 boats/16 rods had no catch.

Sec 5 (Woodland) – 28 bank anglers kept one sockeye and released two Chinook. 2 boats/4 rods had no catch. 

Sec 6 (Kalama) – 44 bank anglers had no catch. 11 boats/19 rods kept two steelhead. 

Sec 8 (Longview) – 157 bank anglers kept one Chinook jack, 10 sockeye, eight steelhead and released three Chinook and two steelhead. 13 boats/41 rods kept four sockeye, nine steelhead and released four Chinook and one sockeye. 

Sec 9 (Cathlamet) – 20 bank anglers kept one steelhead and released one Chinook. 7 boats/26 rods kept one sockeye, seven steelhead and released one Chinook, one Chinook jack and one steelhead. 

Sec 10 (Cathlamet) – 12 bank anglers kept three steelhead. 1 boat/2 rods had no catch. 

Sturgeon: 

Sec 6 (Kalama) – 1 bank angler had no catch. 5 boats/12 rods released three legal sturgeon, eight sublegal and one oversize sturgeon. 

Sec 7 (Cowlitz) – 1 boat/4 rods released one legal sturgeon and seven sublegal sturgeon. 

Sec 8 (Longview) – 2 boats/8 rods released four sublegal sturgeon. 

Shad: 

Sec 1 (Bonneville) – 26 bank anglers kept 226 shad and released 31 shad. 

Sec 4 (Vancouver) – one bank angler released two shad. 3 boats/7 rods kept 26 shad. 

Sec 5 (Woodland) – 1 boat/2 rods kept one shad. 

Sec 6 (Kalama) – 18 boats/37 rods kept 198 shad and released 50 shad. 

Sec 8 (Longview) – 6 boats/11 rods kept 64 shad. 

Salmon/Steelhead: 

Columbia River Tributaries 

Cowlitz River – I-5 Br downstream – 8 bank rods kept two steelhead. 

Above the I-5 Br – 14 bank rods released four Chinook jacks. 9 boats/31 rods kept 11 steelhead and released one Chinook. 

Tacoma Power employees recovered 26 winter-run steelhead adults, 21 summer-run steelhead adults, 14 spring Chinook adults, and 28 spring Chinook jacks during five days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator. 

During the past week, Tacoma Power released 11 spring Chinook adults, one spring Chinook jack, and three winter-run steelhead adults into Lake Scanewa in Randle and they released one winter-run steelhead adult into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton 

Tacoma Power also released 3,800 rainbow trout into Mayfield Lake last week. 

River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 5,100 cubic feet per second on Monday, June 8, 2020. Water visibility is 11 feet and the water temperature is 48.2 F. 

Kalama River – 52 bank anglers kept one Chinook, one Chinook jack and released one Chinook and a steelhead. 2 boats/4 rods had no catch. 

Klickitat below Fisher Hill Bridge – 19 bank anglers kept one Chinook. 

Klickitat above #5 Fishway – Two bank anglers had no catch.
