WDFW Preliminary Lower Columbia River and Washington Tributary Sport Summary – Aug 18-24, 2025

Mainstem Columbia River 

Lower Columbia River, Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam — 801 salmonid boats and 334 Washington bank rods were tallied on the flight count Saturday, August 23. 

DENNIS SCHWARTZ WAS ABLE TO FIND THIS LOWER COLUMBIA FALL CHINOOK THIS MORNING “DESPITE THE GILLNETTERS AND HOT WATER.” THERE ARE TWO MORE NINE-HOUR MAINSTEM NONTREATY COMMERCIAL GILLNET OPENERS THIS WEEK, WHILE LAST WEEKEND’S HEAT HAS PUSHED THE BIG RIVER ABOVE 72 DEGREES AT MULTIPLE MAINSTEM GAUGES IN THE WESTERN GORGE. Salmon/Steelhead 

Section 1 (Bonneville) — 69 bank anglers kept four Chinook, two steelhead and released one steelhead. 23 boats/47 rods kept three Chinook and released one Chinook jack and one coho. 

Section 2 (Camas/Washougal) — Three bank anglers had no catch. 46 boats/92 rods kept 10 Chinook, two Chinook jacks, three steelhead and released six steelhead. 

Section 3 (I-5 Area) — Nine bank anglers had no catch. 7 boats/14 rods had no catch. 

Section 4 (Vancouver) — 75 bank anglers kept three Chinook. 118 boats/244 rods kept 18 Chinook, seven Chinook jacks and three steelhead. 

Section 5 (Woodland) — 42 bank anglers kept one steelhead and released three steelhead. 102 boats/216 rods kept 22 Chinook, one steelhead and released four Chinook and one Chinook jack. 

Section 6 (Kalama) — 337 bank anglers kept 30 Chinook, one Chinook jack, one steelhead and  released one Chinook and three steelhead. 66 boats/135 rods kept 10 Chinook, one coho and one steelhead. 

Section 7 (Cowlitz) — 38 boats/78 rods kept five Chinook, four steelhead and released one Chinook. 

Section 8 (Longview) — 157 bank anglers kept 17 Chinook and 11 steelhead. 123 boats/264 rods  kept 20 Chinook, 10 steelhead and released two Chinook jacks and one coho.  

Section 9 (Cathlamet) — 24 bank anglers kept one steelhead and released one steelhead. 94 boats/202 rods kept 15 Chinook, two steelhead and released one Chinook jack. 

Section 10 (Cathlamet) — No bank effort reported. 2 boats/3 rods kept two steelhead and released  two steelhead.

Sturgeon

Shad

Walleye

Columbia River Tributaries 

Salmon/Steelhead 

Cowlitz River (I-5 Bridge downstream) — 13 bank anglers had no catch. No boat effort reported. 

Cowlitz River (I-5 Bridge upstream) — Nine bank anglers kept three steelhead. 1 boat/2 rods had no  catch. 

Kalama River — 36 bank anglers had no catch. 

Lewis River — 21 bank anglers had no catch. 2 boats/3 rods released one Chinook.

Wind River — No effort reported. 

Drano Lake — 28 bank anglers kept one steelhead and released five steelhead. 36 boats/79 rods kept 14 Chinook and released 33 steelhead. 

Klickitat River (below Fisher Hill Bridge) — One bank angler had no catch. 

ODFW Columbia Catch Summaries

From Friday, August 22 through Sunday, August 24, 2025 Oregon creel samplers contacted 551 boats (1,880 anglers) for 666 Chinook (averaged 0.35 fish/rod) and 1,013 Coho (averaged 0.54 fish/rod) kept; and 717 Chinook and 620 Coho released.
