Oregon General Marine Bag Limit Reduced Again
THE FOLLOWING IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OREGON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE
Beginning Thursday, September 18, 2025, the General Marine Species daily bag limit will be reduced to a 3-fish bag limit. The 1-fish sub-bag limit for cabezon and the 1-fish sub-bag limit for canary rockfish will remain in place, and retention of quillback and yelloweye rockfishes remains prohibited.

Great weather and ocean conditions since mid-July have led to high fishing effort and success. In August, an estimated 53 metric tons (mt) of black rockfish and 8.5 mt of blue/deacon rockfish were caught, exceeding the projections for the month despite the bag limit returning to a 4-fish bag on August 18. You can see these updates on the ODFW groundfish estimates webpage. A bag limit reduction from four to three fish on September 18 will reduce the risk of an early season closure.
Additional information on the recreational bottomfish fishery can be found on the ODFW sport bottomfish webpage.
The General Marine Species group is made up of all rockfish species, greenlings, cabezon, skates, and other marine species not listed on page 81 of the 2025 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations Book.
As a reminder, other bag limits remain the same, which include:
- Lingcod daily bag limit: 2
- Sablefish daily bag limit: 10
- Flatfish daily bag limit: 25
- Long-leader daily bag limit: 10, with a sub-bag limit of 1 canary rockfish
Additionally, Pacific halibut fishing remains open. Visit the ODFW sport Pacific halibut webpage for more information on seasons and subareas.
Retention of quillback rockfish and yelloweye rockfish are prohibited at all times and in all waters.
