WDFW Fish Truck Overturns, Spilling Thousands Of Tiny Trout
A Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife hatchery truck transporting thousands of fingerling rainbow trout overturned earlier today near Offutt Lake south of Olympia, leading to the loss of the fish.
The agency driver was treated at the scene, reportedly near Wolf Haven, by EMS for “minor injuries” and was subsequently released.
WDFW says the accident resulted in the loss of 7,500-plus trout meant to be released into the popular Thurston County lake next spring. They will be replaced; another 2,000 fingerlings were delivered to the lake earlier today.
The incident was reported on Thurston Co. Scanner, News, & Weather Blog on Facebook and as a special statement on WDFW’s website.
