THE FOLLOWING FISHING REPORTS ORIGINATED WITH WDFW AND ODFW

Preliminary Washington Tributary Sport Summary – May 11-17, 2026

Mainstem Columbia River 

Lower Columbia River, Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam — 406 salmonid boats and 286 Washington bank rods were tallied on the flight count Friday, May 16. 

Salmon/Steelhead 

Section 1 (Bonneville) — 192 bank anglers kept 17 Chinook, five jacks, and released eight Chinook. 12 boats/34 rods kept one Chinook. 

Section 2 (Camas/Washougal) — No bank effort reported. 47 boats/116 rods kept one Chinook and released three Chinook. 

Section 3 (I-5 Area) — One bank angler had no catch. 1 boat/2 rods had no catch. 

Section 4 (Vancouver) — 41 bank anglers kept two Chinook and two steelhead. 44 boats/107 rods kept six Chinook and released one Chinook. 

Section 5 (Woodland) — 31 bank anglers kept one Chinook. 26 boats/65 rods kept five Chinook and released one Chinook. 

Section 6 (Kalama) — 51 bank anglers kept three Chinook. 22 boats/65 rods kept four Chinook, one jack, and released one Chinook and one jack. 

Section 7 (Cowlitz) — No bank effort reported. 12 boats/40 rods kept three Chinook. 

Section 8 (Longview) — 24 bank anglers kept two Chinook. 39 boats/90 rods kept two Chinook and released one Chinook.

Section 9 (Cathlamet) — 32 bank anglers kept one Chinook and one steelhead. 7 boats/18 rods kept two Chinook and two steelhead. 

Section 10 (Cathlamet) — No bank effort reported. No boat effort reported.

Sturgeon 

No effort reported. 

Shad 

No effort reported. 

Walleye 

No effort reported. 

Columbia River Tributaries 

Salmon/Steelhead 

Cowlitz River (I-5 Bridge downstream) — 171 bank anglers kept six Chinook, two jacks, and released two steelhead and three sturgeon. 2 boat/2 rods had no catch. 

Cowlitz River (I-5 Bridge upstream) — 42 bank anglers kept one Chinook. 2 boats/6 rods kept two Chinook.

Kalama River — 17 bank anglers had no catch. 17 boats/35 rods kept eight Chinook, one jack and released one steelhead. 

Lewis River — No bank or boat effort reported. 

Wind River — 12 bank anglers had no catch. 85 boats/231 rods kept 41 Chinook, two jacks, and released one Chinook. 

Drano Lake — 16 bank anglers kept five Chinook. 87 boats/314 rods kept 188 Chinook, three jacks, one steelhead and released one Chinook and one steelhead.

Klickitat River (below Fisher Hill Bridge) — Eight bank anglers had no catch. No boat effort reported. 

SHAD ARE BEGINNING TO BE CAUGHT IN THE WILLAMETTE AND LOWER COLUMBIA RIVERS, PROVIDING AN ALTERNATIVE TO SPRINGERS AS WELL AS A GOOD SOURCE OF FISHING BAIT. (ANDY WALGAMOTT)
