THE FOLLOWING FISHING REPORTS ORIGINATED WITH WDFW AND ODFW

WDFW Preliminary Lower Columbia River and Washington Tributary Sport Summary – Sept 29-Oct 5, 2025

Mainstem Columbia River 

Lower Columbia River, Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam — 222 salmonid boats and 31 Washington bank rods were tallied on the flight count Saturday, October 4. 

WITH ONLY COHO OPEN ON THE MAINSTEM LOWER COLUMBIA, SOME ANGLERS ARE FINDING FISH, INCLUDING DENNIS SCHWARTZ. (KNIFE PHOTO CONTEST)

Salmon/Steelhead 

Section 1 (Bonneville) — No effort reported. 

Section 2 (Camas/Washougal) — 14 boats/29 rods kept seven coho, one coho jack and released 25 Chinook, one Chinook jack and five coho. 

Section 3 (I-5 Area) — One bank angler had no catch.  

Section 4 (Vancouver) — One bank angler had no catch. 21 boats/47 rods kept 26 coho and  released five Chinook. 

Section 5 (Woodland) — 46 boats/97 rods kept 32 coho, five coho jacks and released 29 Chinook,  two Chinook jacks and seven coho. 

Section 6 (Kalama) — 42 bank anglers kept two coho, one coho jack and released two Chinook and  one coho. 23 boats/58 rods kept 18 coho, one coho jack and released three Chinook, one Chinook  jack and seven coho. 

Section 7 (Cowlitz) — No effort reported. 

Section 8 (Longview) — Two bank anglers had no catch. 10 boats/18 rods kept one coho, one coho  jack and released one Chinook and three coho. 

Section 9 (Cathlamet) — 7 boats/12 rods released one Chinook jack and one coho.

Section 10 (Cathlamet) — No effort reported.

Columbia River Tributaries 

Salmon/Steelhead 

Cowlitz River (I-5 Bridge downstream) — 19 bank anglers had no catch. 1 boat/2 rods had no catch.  

Cowlitz River (I-5 Bridge upstream) — 11 bank anglers kept one coho and released three Chinook. 1 boat/3 rods kept one coho jack. 

Kalama River — 19 bank rods kept one coho and released one Chinook. 1 boat/1 rod had no catch. 

Lewis River — 163 bank anglers kept four Chinook, 44 coho, nine coho jacks, one steelhead and  released four Chinook and eight coho. 34 boats/61 rods kept 25 Chinook, 10 Chinook jacks, six coho,  seven coho jacks and released three Chinook, four Chinook jacks, two coho and one coho jack.  

Wind River — 10 bank anglers kept two coho and released one coho. 65 boats/155 rods kept 41 Chinook, 12 Chinook jacks, 170 coho, three coho jacks and released 32 coho and one steelhead. 

Drano Lake — 43 bank anglers kept nine Chinook, three coho and released four Chinook, four coho and nine steelhead. 66 boats/208 rods kept 87 Chinook, 14 Chinook jacks, 59 coho, five coho jacks and released eight Chinook, one Chinook jack, one coho and two steelhead. 

Klickitat River (below Fisher Hill Bridge) — 85 bank anglers kept 42 Chinook, two coho and released  three Chinook. 2 boats/4 rods kept two coho and released one coho jack. 

Klickitat River (above# 5 fishway) — 12 bank anglers kept two Chinook and two Chinook jacks.

WDFW 2025 Hanford Reach Sport Fishery

The Hanford Reach fall salmon sport fishery from September 29 through October 6. WDFW staff interviewed anglers from 454 boats (1,512 anglers) with 740 adult Chinook. Based on sampling, an estimated 2,285 adult Chinook were harvested from 4,525 angler trips (1,471 boats) in the eighth week of the fishery.

ODFW Buoy 10 Columbia Catch Summaries

From Friday, October 3 through Sunday, October 5, 2025 Oregon creel samplers contacted 83 boats (258 anglers) for 121 Coho (averaged 0.48 fish/rod) kept; and 2 Chinook and 48 Coho released.
