Columbia River Tributaries 

BUOY 10, THE FALL SALMON FISHERY AT THE MOUTH OF THE COLUMBIA WHERE JOHN WEINHEIMER CAUGHT THIS CHINOOK IN 2019, OPENED THIS WEEK. (FISHING PHOTO CONTEST BY JOSH WEINHEIMER)

Tributary Weir Report: Current status as of August 3, 2021. 

This section will provide operational status of the resistance board weirs run in Southwest  WA. Additional information for these and other weirs will be available in the coming weeks.  

Grays River Weir – located upstream of the Highway 4 bridge ~.3 miles. Installed and operating.

Kalama River Weir – located at the Modrow Trap facility. Installed and operating.

Elochoman River Weir – located upstream of the Foster Road bridge ~.5 miles. Installed and operating.

Washougal River Weir – located at the Fords Game Access Site. Installed and operating.  

Green River Weir – located at the North Toutle Hatchery. Installs anticipated to begin the week of  August 2nd 

Coweeman River Weir – located at river mile 6.8 near the end of Allen Street in Kelso. Installs  anticipated to begin the week of August 9th 

Cedar Creek Weir – located 0.25 mile from the mouth with the NF Lewis. Installs anticipated to begin  the first week of September 

Fishery Reports: 

Lower Columbia mainstem Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam – 59 salmonid boats and 34 Washington bank rods were tallied during Tuesday’s (8/3) flight count. 

Mainstem Columbia River 

Salmon/Steelhead

Sec 1 (Bonneville) – 26 bank anglers kept one sockeye, four steelhead and released three Chinook and  five steelhead.  

Sec 2 (Camas/Washougal) – 5 boats/10 rods had no catch. 

Sec 3 (I-5 area) – 54 bank anglers kept one sockeye, four steelhead and released 10 steelhead. 

Sec 4 (Vancouver) – Nine bank anglers had no catch. 5 boats/12 rods had no catch.

Sec 5 (Woodland) – Nine bank anglers had no catch. 8 boats/12 rods had no catch.

Sec 6 (Kalama) – 20 bank anglers had no catch. 2 boats/4 rods had no catch. 

Sec 7 (Cowlitz) – 2 boats/6 rods kept three Chinook and released four steelhead. 

Sec 8 (Longview) – 63 bank anglers kept four steelhead and released three steelhead. 4 boats/7 rods had no catch. 

Sec 9 (Cathlamet) – 11 bank anglers had no catch. 3 boats/9 rods kept three steelhead and released  one Chinook and four steelhead. 

Sec 10 (Cathlamet) – No report. 

Sturgeon: 

Sec 6 (Kalama) – 1 boat/4 rods released 10 sublegal sturgeon. 

Sec 8 (Longview) – 1 boat/3 rods had no catch. 

Walleye: 

Sec 2 (Camas/Washougal) – 4 boats/5 rods released one walleye. 

Columbia River Tributaries 

Salmon/Steelhead

Cowlitz River I-5 Br downstream – Six bank rods had no catch.  

Cowlitz River Above the I-5 Br – 11 bank rods kept one steelhead. 24 boats/77 rods kept 33 steelhead  and released one jack and one steelhead. 

Kalama River – 12 bank rods kept one steelhead and released one steelhead.  

Lewis River – 10 bank rods had no catch. 3 boats/6 rods kept one steelhead. 

Drano Lake – Four rods kept one Chinook. 8 boats/15 rods kept two Chinook and released one Chinook,  one jack and 11 steelhead. 

Klickitat River below Fisher Hill Bridge – No report. 

Klickitat River above #5 Fishway – No report.
