Washington Columbia River and Tributary Fishing Report July 6-12, 2020

Salmon/Steelhead: 

Mainstem Lower Columbia River 

Sec 1 (Bonneville) – 28 bank anglers kept three Chinook and released two Chinook and two steelhead. 

Sec 2 (Camas/Washougal) – Six bank anglers had no catch. 10 boats/16 rods had no catch. 

Sec 3 (I-5 area) – 14 bank anglers released two steelhead. 6 boats/10 rods had no catch. 

Sec 4 (Vancouver) – 159 bank anglers kept four Chinook and released two Chinook, one jack and one steelhead. 59 boats/119 rods kept two Chinook and released six Chinook and one steelhead. 

Sec 5 (Woodland) – 126 bank anglers kept two Chinook and released one Chinook and one steelhead. 14 boats/26 rods kept one Chinook, one jack and released one Chinook and one steelhead. 

Sec 6 (Kalama) – 203 bank anglers kept seven Chinook, one jack and released six Chinook, eight steelhead and one sockeye. 25 boats/54 rods kept one Chinook and released three Chinook, one jack and two steelhead. 

Sec 7 (Cowlitz) – 18 boats/45 rods kept six Chinook and released four Chinook and one steelhead. 

Sec 8 (Longview) – 93 bank anglers kept one Chinook and released 14 steelhead and one sockeye. 67 boats/146 rods kept four Chinook, one jack and released four Chinook, one steelhead and one sockeye. 

Sec 9 (Cathlamet) – 23 bank anglers released five steelhead. 15 boats/36 rods kept one Chinook and released 21 steelhead and one sockeye. 

Sec 10 (Cathlamet) – 1 boat/3 rods had no catch. 

Sturgeon: 

Sec 6 (Kalama) – 1 boat/5 rods released two oversize sturgeon. 

Sec 7 (Cowlitz) – 1 boat/6 rods released eight sublegal, four legal and three oversize sturgeon. 

Sec 8 (Longview) – 1 boat/2 rods released five sublegal and one oversize sturgeon. 

Shad: 

Sec 1 (Bonneville) – Two bank anglers kept two shad. 

Walleye: Sec 2 (Camas/Washougal) – 2 boats/3 rods had no catch. 

Salmon/Steelhead: 

Columbia River Tributaries 

Cowlitz River – I-5 Br downstream – 57 bank rods kept four steelhead and released one steelhead. 

Above the I-5 Br – 42 bank rods kept 10 steelhead. 12 boats/30 rods kept 26 steelhead. 

Tacoma Power employees recovered 445 summer-run steelhead adults, 82 spring Chinook adults, 64 spring Chinook jacks, 192 spring Chinook mini-jacks, three cutthroat trout, and one winter-run steelhead adult during five days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator. 

During the past week, Tacoma Power released 36 spring Chinook adults, eight spring Chinook jacks, and two cutthroat trout into the Cispus River near Yellowjacket Creek in Randle and they released one cutthroat trout into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton.

Tacoma Power recycled 150 summer-run steelhead adults to the I-5 launch and they released 36 spring Chinook jacks and 148 spring Chinook mini-jacks into Riffe Lake. Last week they also released 2,960 rainbow trout into Mayfield Lake last week. 

River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 3,510 cubic feet per second on Monday, July 13, 2020. Water visibility is 12 feet and the water temperature is 52.9 F. 

Kalama River – Nine bank anglers had no catch. 

Lewis River – 19 bank anglers had no catch. 3 boats/8 rods kept three steelhead and released two jacks. 

Wind River – One bank angler had no catch. 

Drano Lake – 1 boat/2 rod had no catch. 

Klickitat below Fisher Hill Bridge – One bank angler had no catch. 

Klickitat above #5 Fishway – Two bank anglers released one steelhead.
