SW WA, Lower Columbia, Buoy 10 Fishing Reports (8-29-24)

THE FOLLOWING FISHING REPORTS ORIGINATED WITH WDFW AND ODFW

Lower Columbia River, Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam – 939 salmonid boats and 215 Washington bank rods were tallied during the flight count conducted Saturday 8/25.

Mainstem Columbia River 

Salmon/Steelhead

WDFW Sec 1 (Bonneville) – 92 bank anglers kept two Chinook, two jacks and released two jacks. 26 boats/59  rods kept 10 Chinook, one jack and released six Chinook.  

ODFW Gorge: Weekly checking showed 13 Chinook kept, and one Chinook, two coho, and one steelhead released for 49 boats (107 anglers); and one steelhead released for 42 bank anglers.

WDFW Sec 2 (Camas/Washougal) – One bank angler had no catch. 80 boats/161 rods kept 25 Chinook, two  jacks and released three Chinook, three jacks and two coho.  

ODFW Troutdale: Weekly checking showed 54 Chinook, nine jack Chinook, and one coho jack kept, and seven Chinook, four jack Chinook, one coho, and five steelhead released for 401 boats (798 anglers).

WDFW Sec 3 (I-5 area) – Two bank anglers had no catch. 11 boats/22 rods released two steelhead. 

WDFW Sec 4 (Vancouver) – 157 bank anglers kept 16 Chinook. 114 boats/226 rods kept 26 Chinook, two jacks, two coho and released three Chinook and five steelhead.  

ODFW Portland to Warrior Rock: Weekly checking showed 23 Chinook and seven jack Chinook kept, and one Chinook and one jack Chinook released for 90 boats (198 anglers); and no catch for 14 bank anglers.

WDFW Sec 5 (Woodland) – 149 bank anglers kept five Chinook. 85 boats/193 rods kept 29 Chinook, two coho,  one coho jack and released four Chinook, one jack, four coho and eight steelhead.  

WDFW Sec 6 (Kalama) – 319 bank anglers kept 31 Chinook, one coho and released three Chinook. 50 boats/113  rods kept 25 Chinook, one jack, three coho and released two Chinook and one coho. 

WDFW Sec 7 (Cowlitz) – No report. 65 boats/167 rods kept 47 Chinook, four jacks, four coho, one coho jack and  released six Chinook, one jack, four coho and two steelhead. 

ODFW Warrior Rock to Rainier: Weekly checking showed 422 Chinook, 36 jack Chinook, and 25 coho kept, and 30 Chinook, six jack Chinook, 20 coho, one jack coho, and 26 steelhead released for 565 boats (1,406 anglers); and one Chinook and two steelhead released for 33 bank anglers.

WDFW Sec 8 (Longview) – 191 bank anglers kept 32 Chinook, two jacks, two coho and released five steelhead. 144 boats/320 rods kept 85 Chinook, six jacks, 17 coho and released five Chinook and seven coho. 

WDFW Sec 9 (Cathlamet) – No bank angler report. 39 boats/92 rods kept 22 Chinook, two coho and released  two Chinook and two steelhead. 

ODFW Rainier to Lower Puget Island: Weekly checking showed seven Chinook and one jack Chinook kept, and two Chinook released for 16 boats (35 anglers); and two Chinook kept, and one Chinook and one steelhead released for 13 bank anglers.

WDFW Sec 10 (Cathlamet) – Five bank anglers had no catch. 1 boat/3 rods had no catch.

ODFW Lower Puget Island to Tongue Point/Rocky Point: Weekly checking showed three jack Chinook and six coho kept, and four Chinook released for eight boats (30 anglers).

ODFW Buoy 10 Weekly checking showed 1,065 Chinook and 1.468 coho kept, and 1,071 Chinook, 684 coho, and four steelhead released for 1,037 boats (3,585 anglers).

ODFW Bonneville Pool (Bonneville Dam upstream to The Dalles Dam):‌ Weekly checking showed 23 Chinook and three jack Chinook kept, and nine Chinook, one jack Chinook, one coho, and three steelhead released for 44 boats (115 anglers); and no catch for one bank angler.

ODFW The Dalles Pool (The Dalles Dam upstream to John Day Dam):‌ Weekly checking showed 34 Chinook, one jack Chinook, and one steelhead kept, and one Chinook released for 42 boats (110 anglers).

ODFW John Day Pool (Columbia River above John Day Dam and John Day Arm): No report.

Sturgeon: 

ODFW Lower Columbia River (below Bonneville Dam):‌ Closed for retention. Weekly checking showed four sub-legal sized, two legal-sized, and two over-legal sized sturgeon released for three boats (six anglers); and one legal-sized sturgeon released for two bank anglers.

WDFW Sec 6 (Kalama) – 1 boat/6 rods released one oversize sturgeon.  

ODFW Bonneville Pool: Closed for retention. No report.

ODFW The Dalles Pool: ‌Closed for retention. Weekly checking showed six sub-legal sized, and 11 over-legal sized sturgeon released for two boats (six anglers).

ODFW John Day Pool: ‌Closed to retention. No report

Walleye‌

ODFW Lower Columbia River (below Bonneville Dam):‌ Weekly checking showed four walleye kept for two boats (three anglers).

ODFW Bonneville Pool:‌ No report.

ODFW The Dalles Pool:‌ No report.

ODFW John Day Pool:‌Weekly checking showed 16 walleye kept and 9 walleye released for 11 boats (23 anglers); and three walleye kept, and 15 walleye released for two bank anglers.

WDFW Columbia River Tributaries 

Salmon/Steelhead

Cowlitz River I-5 Br downstream – 21 bank rods had no catch. 

Cowlitz River Above the I-5 Br – 25 bank rods kept six steelhead. 14 boats/37 rods kept 20 steelhead and released two steelhead. 

Kalama River – No report.  

Lewis River – 9 boats/18 rods kept four Chinook, one coho, one steelhead and released two Chinook.

Wind River – No report. 

Drano Lake – 11 bank rods kept one Chinook and released two steelhead. 47 boats/100 rods kept 83 Chinook, four Chinook jacks and released 20 steelhead. 

Klickitat River below Fisher Hill Bridge – No report. 

Klickitat River above #5 Fishway – No report.
