THE FOLLOWING IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OREGON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE

The Bonneville Pool retention sturgeon fishery (Columbia River from Bonneville Dam upstream to The Dalles Dam) will close on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 11:59 p.m.

The decision was made today by fishery managers from Oregon and Washington after reviewing catch data that confirms the 500 fish guideline was met as of yesterday.

Retention sturgeon fishing closed in The Dalles Pool effective Jan. 5. Sturgeon retention remains open in John Day Pool, where anglers have caught about 25 percent of the 105 fish guideline.

Retention sturgeon fishing is closed below Bonneville Dam and below Willamette Falls under permanent sport fishing regulations.

Except for specific sanctuaries, catch-and-release sturgeon fishing remains open in all of these waters, even when retention seasons are closed.
