Penrose Point SP To Reopen March 1 For Shellfish Harvesting

THE FOLLOWING IS A RULE CHANGE NOTICE FROM THE WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE

Action: Opens sport clam, oyster, and mussel harvest at Penrose State Park.

Effective date: March 1 through April 30, 2024.

PENROSE POINT JUTS OUT INTO CARR INLET FROM THE KEY PENINSULA WEST OF TACOMA. (WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF ECOLOGY)

Species affected: All clams, oysters, and mussels.

Location: Penrose Point State Park, Pierce County.

Reason for action: The clam, oyster, and mussel season at Penrose Point State Park was closed in 2023 due to construction in the day use area of the park. This beach will return to a March-April clam, oyster, and mussel season beginning March 1, and running through April 30, 2024, except for the part of Mayo Cove within the commercially prohibited growing area that is closed year-round.
