OSP Wildlife Troopers Looking For Info On Bull Elk Wasted In Eagle Cap Wilderness

THE FOLLOWING IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OREGON STATE POLICE FISH AND WILDLIFE DIVISION

The Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division is asking for the public’s help in identifying the individual or individuals responsible for the waste of a bull elk in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The bull elk was likely killed on the evening of Thursday, September 10, 2026, or the morning of Friday, September 11, 2026.

The bull was killed along the Elk Creek Trail, Trail Number 1944, east of Burger Pass. The closest trailhead is the Buck Creek Trailhead east of the town of Union. The elk was killed approximately six miles from the nearest trailhead. The bull had been gutted, and its head and antlers were removed; however, all the meat was left to waste. The elk was likely killed by an individual participating in the Eagle Cap Zone archery elk hunt.

Anyone who was hunting, horse packing, or hiking in the area, either from the Buck Creek Trailhead or along the Elk Creek Trail near Burger Pass in the Eagle Cap Wilderness on September 10–11, 2026, is encouraged to contact the Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division Turn in Poachers (TIP) hotline at 1‑800‑452‑7888 or call *OSP (*677) from a mobile phone.
