THE FOLLOWING IS A RULE CHANGE NOTICE FROM THE WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE

Marine Area 10 (Seattle/Bremerton Area) salmon fishing season returns to permanent rules, open 7 days/week

Action: Marine Area 10 (Seattle/Bremerton Area) salmon fishing season returns to permanent rules as listed in 2021/2022 Washington Sportfishing Rules pamphlet.

Effective date: March 16, 2022.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Marine Area 10 (Seattle/Bremerton Area).

Rule: Open daily. Salmon daily limit is two (2). Chinook minimum size is 22”. Other salmon, no minimum size. Release wild Chinook.

Reason for actionThe MA-10 winter Chinook fishery reopened on February 24 after a brief pause early in the season, and since that time the fishery has reached 25% of the total encounters (8,475), 22% of sublegal encounters (7,319) and 26% of unmarked encounters (1,105) agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF). Current information indicates that there is adequate available harvest and encounters to open more days and raise the retention limit for the remainder of the fishery. The MA-10 winter season is scheduled to close on March 31.

AREA 10 WAS INITIALLY OPEN SATURDAYS THROUGH MONDAYS IN THE FIRST HALF OF JANUARY BEFORE SEASON WAS PAUSED, THEN REOPENED IN LATE FEBRUARY ON A THURSDAY-SATURDAY SCHEDULE. RECENT WDFW CATCH STATS SHOW A FEW CHINOOK CHECKED AT LOCAL LAUNCHES DURING THE MOST RECENT OPEN DAYS. (WDFW)
