Hoodsport Chum Fishery Closing Due To Slow Early Returns

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EMERGENCY RULE CHANGE NOTICE FROM THE WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE

Fishing to close within the Hoodsport Hatchery Zone

Action: Closes all fishing.

A STATE DEPARTMENT OF ECOLOGY SHORELINES PHOTO SHOWS THE HOODSPORT HATCHERY ALONG THE MOUTH OF FINCH CREEK IN LOWER HOOD CANAL. (DOE)

Effective date: Nov. 9, 2020 through Nov. 30, 2020.

Species affected: All species.

Location: Hoodsport Hatchery Zone (Marine Area 12 waters within a 2,000-foot arc seaward of yellow buoys at the mouth of Finch Creek at Hoodsport Salmon Hatchery).

Reason for action: Fishery managers estimate that the 2020 fall chum run is about one-third of the way through normal run timing while the hatchery has only achieved 10 percent of broodstock needs. This rule is necessary to ensure that broodstock needs are met.
