Coyote Attacks Continue In Bellevue; WDFW Kills Second Coyote
Update, 2:06 p.m., March 14, 2025: WDFW reports it has lethally removed a second coyote from the south side of Bellevue, which is where a series of coyote attacks on adults and kids has occurred over the past week. The animal was killed Thursday night, the agency said in an updated statement.
WDFW is reporting this afternoon that it killed one of two coyotes believed to have been involved in a string of attacks in Bellevue involving children this week and which followed on two coyote attacks on adults in the same area last week.

According to a new statement from the agency, after receiving a report of a coyote biting the hand of a child in the Factoria neighborhood Tuesday evening, officers quickly responded to the scene and spotted two coyotes and were able to kill one, though the other ran away.
As officers continue to patrol the area, the carcass of the first coyote has been sent to the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab in Pullman for an evaluation.
As for the child, they were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries before being released later Tuesday evening.
It was the second coyote attack of the day on a kid.
According to WDFW, at midmorning a coyote came up to a group of children at a bus stop in Factoria “and made attempts to bite them, ripping some clothing and attempting to take a backpack.”
Adults were able to intervene and the kids were picked up for school. Afterwards, WDFW officers and agency conflict staff responded to the area.
WDFW also reports that on Monday, it learned of an incident that occurred last Friday near Tyee Middle School, across I-90 from Factoria, where a coyote grabbed a student’s backpack off a sidewalk and ran into the woods with it.
That same day last week saw a coyote bite a woman on the leg in her Norwood Village patio in the early hours while a Factoria man in his open garage was also bit on the leg.
The area has an odd history of coyotes going after people.
Nineteen years ago this April, a coyote bit two Bellevue boys in a single afternoon about a month after a coyote bit a Bellevue woman in the leg while she was walking on a sidewalk. All three incidents occurred in the Eastgate area, not far from Factoria. A toy poodle was also attacked about 2 miles away in the same period.
Two days later that spring, a WDFW sergeant shot and killed a male coyote in the area as it approached him while walking down a wooded trail.
WDFW’s advice for living with coyotes includes not leaving young kids in areas coyotes are often seen or heard, as well as preventing access to food items, be that garbage, compost or fattening up the neighborhood feral cats, which coyotes eat.
