Chance For New Turkey Hunters To Get In On A Mentored NE WA Weekend Hunt
Registration for a popular mentored spring turkey hunting workshop in Northeast Washington opens at 7 a.m. March 23.

Held at Camp Bear Paw just outside Newport, the free May 2-4 event is for hunters 12 years of age and older who’ve never harvested a turkey and/or who don’t have family or friends who hunt the big birds.
The workshop begins on Friday, May 2, with a focus on the basics of how and what to hunt gobblers with, followed by two days of turkey hunting on Saturday and Sunday with certified mentors.
The course is put on by the Washington State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, First Hunt Foundation and Safari Club International. It’s one of several mentored opportunities WDFW has held in recent years.
Participants will need to have a Washington small game hunting license and a turkey tag or two, and they are advised to arrive Thursday evening or by 8 a.m. Friday. Lodging and meals are provided.

ODFW has also lined up a slate of turkey hunting workshops next month, including in Salem, Bend, Central Point, White River Wildlife Area and Roseburg. Best advice is to register early, as these classroom-based courses are popular too.
