$240 Million For Northwest Tribal Hatcheries Announced

Federal officials yesterday announced nearly a quarter of a billion dollars in funding for tribal salmon and steelhead hatcheries in the Northwest and Alaska, with an initial $54 million made available to 27 tribes for maintenance, modernization and capacity.

Fish And Wildlife Commission Fails To Downlist Washington Wolves

Failing to recognize the clear recovery wolves have made in Washington and with the governor pressing his thumb on the scales once again, the state Fish and Wildlife Commission took no action on downlisting gray wolves today, with motions to downlist to sensitive and threatened statuses both failing on 4-5 votes. It means the species remains listed as endangered under state law.

NMFS Review Says Willamette Springers, Winter-runs Should Keep ESA Threatened Status

Federal fishery overseers say that the viability of Willamette River spring Chinook and winter steelhead has declined since 2016’s review of both stocks and recommends that upstream and downstream passage past dams, deep reservoir drawdowns in fall and winter and continued floodplain restoration actions be implemented to help advance their recovery.
