THE FOLLOWING FISHING REPORTS ORIGINATED WITH WDFW

Preliminary Lower Columbia River and Washington Tributary Sport Summary Sept 28-Oct 4, 2026

Mainstem Columbia River 

Salmon/Steelhead 

Lower Columbia River, Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam — 263 salmonid boats and 16 Washington bank rods were tallied on the flight count Saturday, October 3. 

Section 1 (Bonneville) — 19 bank anglers kept three coho, released six Chinook and five Chinook jacks. 4 boats/9 rods kept seven coho, released two Chinook and one Chinook jack. 

Section 2 (Camas/Washougal) — No bank effort reported. 42 boats/94 rods kept 20 coho, two coho  jacks, released 15 Chinook and seven Chinook jacks. 

Section 3 (I-5 Area) — No bank effort reported. 5 boats/6 rods had no catch. 

Section 4 (Vancouver) — Five bank anglers had no catch. 8 boats/19 rods kept two coho and  released five Chinook. 

Section 5 (Woodland) — No bank effort reported. 19 boats/52 rods kept five coho, released 28  Chinook, three Chinook jacks and one coho. 

Section 6 (Kalama) — 10 bank anglers had no catch. 15 boats/47 rods kept 13 coho and released six  Chinook. 

Section 7 (Cowlitz) — No bank effort reported. 19 boats/64 rods kept 15 coho, three coho jacks,  released 31 Chinook and one coho. 

Section 8 (Longview) — Six bank anglers had no catch. 31 boats/72 rods kept 24 coho and released  six Chinook. 

Section 9 (Cathlamet) — No bank effort reported. 3 boats/3 rods had no catch.

Section 10 (Cathlamet) — No bank effort reported. 1 boat/1 rod had no catch. 

Columbia River Tributaries 

Salmon/Steelhead 

Cowlitz River (I-5 Bridge downstream) — 70 bank anglers kept three coho, seven coho jacks, released one Chinook, two coho and one coho jack. 9 boats/20 rods kept five coho, four coho jacks,  released 20 Chinook, three Chinook jacks, five coho and two coho jacks. 

Cowlitz River (I-5 Bridge upstream) — 53 bank anglers seven steelhead, one coho jack, released 15 Chinook, one coho and one coho jack. 4 boats/12 rods kept one coho, six steelhead and released  two steelhead. 

Kalama River — Six bank anglers kept one coho. 1 boat/1 rod kept one Chinook. 

Lewis River — 187 bank anglers kept 12 Chinook, five Chinook jacks, 36 coho, 14 coho jacks,  released 10 Chinook, nine Chinook jacks, 15 coho and seven coho jacks. 36 boats/69 rods kept 10 Chinook, five Chinook jacks, seven coho, nine coho jacks, released five Chinook and nine Chinook  jacks. 

Washougal River — No effort reported. 

Wind River — No bank effort reported. 19 boats/45 rods kept seven Chinook, 25 coho, one coho  jack and released one coho. 

Drano Lake — 28 bank anglers kept one coho, released three Chinook, 15 steelhead and two sockeye. 42 boats/121 rods kept 29 Chinook, five Chinook jacks, 59 coho, released 13 coho and one coho jack. 

Klickitat River (below Fisher Hill Bridge) — No effort reported. 

Klickitat River (above Fisher Hill Bridge) — No effort reported.

2026 Hanford Sport Fishery

The Hanford Reach fall salmon sport fishery from September 28 through October 4. WDFW staff interviewed anglers from 302 boats (992 anglers) with 210 adult Chinook. Based on sampling, an estimated 631 adult Chinook were harvested from 2,912 angler trips (939 boats) in the eighth week of the fishery.

From Monday, September 28, 2026 through Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Oregon creel samplers contacted 33 boats (91 anglers) for 31 Coho (averaged 0.31 fish/rod) kept; and 2 Chinook and 15 Coho released.

Fish sampled to date: 5,610 Chinook and 9,689 Coho
Estimated angler trips: 73,553 boat and 6,502 bank

THE FOLLOWING IS A COLUMBIA RIVER COMPACT NOTICE

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) are seeking applications for membership on the Columbia River Recreational Fishing Advisory Group (CRRAG) and the Columbia River Commercial Fishing Advisory Group (CRCAG) for the 2027-2029 term.

Information about the purpose of the advisory groups, meeting frequency, advisor expectations, and the application process is available in the linked documents below:

The departments are seeking individuals from a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and fisheries interest. ODFW and WDFW encourage anyone with relevant Columbia River fisheries experience to apply. The application period is open through Nov. 1, 2026.
