Hatchery spring Chinook will be fair game again on the Lower Columbia starting this Friday, May 17, for the first of three staggered reopeners stretching over 10 days through mid-June, state managers decided this afternoon.

WDFW announces that the hatchery summer steelhead-directed fishery on the Skykomish River between the Highway 2 bridge and the forks will not open till mid-June and close on July 10 as part of sweeping Snohomish Basin-wide restrictions due to low expected wild Chinook returns this year.

Columbia spring Chinook managers are proposing to reopen the big river below Bonneville for 10 days over the coming weeks, as well as a 12-hour tangle-net fishery this coming Monday that is drawing pushback from CCA.
