Turkey Hunting Workshop For Adults Scheduled Near Corvallis Just Before Spring Opener

Just in time for spring turkey season, ODFW will host a turkey hunting workshop for adult participants (age 18 and older) on Saturday, April 13 at the EE Wilson Wildlife Area, 29555 Camp Adair Rd, Monmouth.

The workshop will cover choosing the right gear, setting decoys and blinds, spring vs fall hunting tactics, turkey behavior and biology, calling techniques and field dressing and cooking. ODFW will provide shotguns and ammunition for participants to practice shooting and patterning a shotgun.

The cost is $52 and includes lunch. Register by April 6 at ODFW’s Licensing website (be sure to use verify/look up your account if you are a returning ODFW customer). More information at ODFW’s Workshop Event page.

“Turkey hunting is an exciting challenge, an American tradition and a great source of delicious wild protein,” says Brandon Dyches, ODFW hunter recruitment specialist. “Join us and find out why so many hunters get hooked on turkey hunting.”

Spring turkey season is open statewide from April 15-May 31 each year and there is also a general fall season in some parts of the state.

Registration Open For Steelhead 101 Workshop In Troutdale

Register by Oct. 25 for a Steelhead 101 fishing workshop Nov. 3 and 10 at Glen Otto Community Park (1106 E Historic Columbia River Hwy, Troutdale).

The event is co-hosted by ODFW and the Sandy River Chapter, Association of NW Steelheaders. Register online at https://or.outdoorcentral.us/or/license (call Jason at 503-947-6025 if you need help registering). 

The workshop is for beginning anglers to learn the essential elements of steelhead fishing. On Nov. 3, the workshop runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and covers selecting the right gear, essential knots, fishing ethics and tips and techniques. Nov. 10’s workshop will be an on-the-water session from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The cost is $52 for adults, $22 for youth (minimum age 10). Lunch, equipment and a year-long membership to the Association of NW Steelheaders is included in the price.

Winterizing Small Outboards Subject Of Workshop In Port Townsend

Small outboards can be a critical component of safety gear—but neglecting them can result in a variety of expenses. The Northwest Maritime Center and Washington Sea Grant are co-sponsoring a one-day workshop on winterizing outboards on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 in Port Townsend, WA.

WASHINGTON SEA GRANT’S WINTERIZING COURSE WILL FOCUS ON OUTBOARDS WITH 15 HORSEPOWER OR LESS. (ANDY WALGAMOTT)

Topics covered include the basics of simple and routine small outboard motor maintenance and winterizing, including: fuel, lubrication, electrical inspection, changing the oil and diagnosing common problems, focusing on two and four stroke gas engines with 15HP or less.

A small engine will be available as a training aid during the workshop. This is a hands-on workshop, so plan on getting dirty!
