Columbia salmon managers report there will be no commercial fishery tomorrow.
Earlier today, they had recommended the fleet head out in Tuesday afternoon, and, with 25 springers caught in a test fishery yesterday and nearly 300 counted at the dam, modeled a catch of around 1,200 Chinook.
But during a meeting early this afternoon, the opening was scrubbed
Managers will talk about the sport fishery during a Wednesday afternoon teleconference call.
It’s possible they will extend the season past April 5 as fishing has been slow, to be charitable, and there’s still plenty of fish to be caught.
Our Jeff Holmes was on the Lower Columbia late last week and reported very slow fishing based on the anglers he was with and the reports they were getting.
Exact figures and stats should be available sometime early this week.
If there’s good news, it’s that the Bonneville Dam count is looking better to this point than it has in recent years, and the tides are supposed to improve this week.
