Hunters coming back down from the weekend opener of High Buck season are reporting hot, dry conditions — see below later today for reports — and now the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has ordered more road, trail and area closures as fires continue to burn in backcountry that is beyond tinder dry.
Forest officials are warning hunters that we may find some of our areas closed, and that’s the case in the upper Chiwawa and Entiat River drainages inside the Glacier Peak Wilderness. They’re part of a massive area closure that stretches clear down the Entiat to the Columbia, from that drainage over to Lake Chelan, and the Chiwawa down to Lake Wenatchee.
There are also closures to be aware of near Cle Elum, in the Enchantments, in the middle Methow Valley and elsewhere. For more, see this press release from USFS.
Below is a map affecting the High Buck Hunt, held inside the Glacier Peak and Alpine Lakes Wildernesses through Sept. 25.
