My dearest writers:
You know I love you, but please, for the sake of my remaining hair and frazzled nerves, no more freelance pluralizing of common fish names!
They’re walleye, not walleyes.
Chinook, not Chinooks.
Coho, not cohos.
Largemouth and smallmouth, not largemouths and smallmouths.
You are free to pluralize fish nicknames all you want — kings, silvers, bucketmouths and bronzebacks, metalheads, silver bullets, etc., etc, etc.
But I draw the line at the increasing creep of Southern Speak in the Northwest and its willy nilly dropping of unnecessary s’s at the end of just any old species.
And now, back to putting together the last bits of the July issue.
