The real action is out of PA and CQ, but pilot fish of this year’s big pink salmon are turning up to the east of the Straits.
Over 70 were tallied at the Coronet Bay ramp, just east of Whidbey Island’s Deception Pass bridge, this past weekend, while Bellingham and Anacortes anglers brought back a handful as well.
Seattle’s Shilshole and Don Armeni ramps also saw one pink apiece. Four were caught out of Hoodsport too.
But it was the Port Angeles ramp at Ediz Hook and Olson’s Resort’s docks at Sekiu that saw the real numbers, a hint of what is yet to hit Puget Sound.
The Friday-through-Sunday tally at the former was 513 while the count at the latter’s docks was 543.
Chinook are being caught in the Straits as well, though the waters has been wind-plagued.
Plenty on the pinkers in the August issue!
