The 2015-16 waterfowl season got off to a very tough start for Gunnar Velikanje due to a lack of water at the Yakima Valley hunting club he belongs to. “For two months we watched the water levels (of Toppenish Creek) hover around 25 to 30 cubic feet per second,” says his dad, Bob. “We sat idly with bone dry ponds, attempting to locate birds where we could. Then December 5th came and the rain began.” He reports that he and Gunnar both shot limits of greenheads last Saturday and Sunday, the final day duck hunting was open on the Yakama Reservation this season (it continues through Jan. 31 in the rest of the state).
