Early next month, someone around these parts is going to be doing a whole lot of jumping up and down with the news that they just won an $85,000 boat and trailer package.
That’s the grand prize of the Northwest Salmon Derby Series, and the winner of the year-long competition will again be drawn at the conclusion of the Nov. 4-5 Everett No-Coho Blackmouth Salmon Derby, where $4,000 is also up for grabs to whomever brings in the biggest Chinook that weekend.
The Hewescraft 220 OceanPro is set up with a Honda 250 and 9.9-horse kicker, Scotty ’riggers, Raymarine electronics, and more, and will roll home on a galvanized EZ-Loader Tandem trailer.
Last year’s edition of the derby was won by Lance Husby and his 15.62-pounder, while Matt Griffin scored the boat.
Second largest king wins $2,500, while third- and fourth-place fish win $1,000 and $500, respectively.
Fishing is restricted to Areas 8 and 9, but with those waters having just opened three days beforehand, there should be some salmon around.
Tickets are $30 for adults (free for kids 12 and under).
